Missouri Recent Arrests Search Tools

Missouri gives the public several ways to look up recent arrests. The state runs a few large databases, and each county sheriff has its own jail roster. Which tool you use depends on what you need. A quick name search on a sheriff site shows who is in jail right now. A search on Case.net shows court charges, hearings, and case status. And a paid check through MACHS pulls up a full criminal history. All of these are real, public tools run by state or local agencies.

Case.net is the first place many people look. It is the state court records portal run by the Missouri Court Automation Program under Section 476.055 RSMo. You can search by name, case number, or filing date. The system covers every circuit court in Missouri. No account is needed for a basic search. It is free to use and runs from 6 AM to 1 AM, Monday through Friday. Documents filed on or after July 1, 2023 can be viewed from your own device. Older records may still need an in-person trip to the circuit clerk. You can also set up alerts through the "Track This Case" tool, which sends you updates by email or text when a case status changes.

The Missouri Automated Criminal History Site, known as MACHS, is the other big state tool. It is run by the Highway Patrol Criminal Justice Information Services Division. MACHS offers two search types. A name-based search costs $15 and gives you open records, which include convictions, arrests less than 30 days old, and pending charges. Results come back fast. A fingerprint search costs $20 and returns the full criminal history, including closed records. MACHS is live 24 hours a day for name searches. Fingerprint results take 5 to 7 business days.

How Recent Arrests Work in Missouri

When someone is arrested in Missouri, the sheriff or police department creates an arrest report. Under Section 610.100 RSMo, an arrest report includes the name of the person, the charge, and the details of the detention. It also lists the arresting officer and a description of any physical evidence seized. These reports are open to the public as long as charges are pending or a conviction was entered.

There are rules about when arrest records close. If a person is arrested but not charged within 30 days, the arrest report becomes a closed record. The same thing happens if the charge is dismissed, nolle prossed, or results in a not guilty finding. Records tied to a Suspended Imposition of Sentence close after the person finishes probation. The Missouri Attorney General's office oversees how the Sunshine Law applies to these records, and agencies must respond to public records requests within three business days.

Incident reports work a bit differently. They log the date, time, location, and victim name for the initial report of a crime. These are also open records. Investigative reports, on the other hand, stay closed until the agency marks the case as inactive. Law enforcement can also redact details that might put a victim, witness, or undercover officer at risk.

Missouri County Jail Rosters and Recent Arrests

Most Missouri counties post their jail roster online through the sheriff office website. These rosters show who is currently in custody. You can see the person's name, charges, bond amount, booking date, and sometimes a mugshot. Some counties update their roster every few hours. Others update once a day. The format varies from county to county, but the basic info is the same.

Greene County uses a system called JailTracker for its online inmate search. Jackson County posts its roster at the sheriff office site. Clay County lists current detainees on its detention listings page. Boone County runs an inmate search tool that lets you look up people by name. Cass County keeps an active inmate roster on its sheriff page. These are just a few examples. Each county page on this site has the direct link to that county's roster or lookup tool.

Not every county has a web-based roster. Some smaller counties still handle arrest lookups by phone or in person. In those cases, you call the sheriff office and ask about recent bookings. The Missouri VINE system can fill the gap. VINE tracks inmates across most Missouri county jails and lets you search by name. You can also sign up for alerts that tell you when someone is released, transferred, or moved. The toll-free number is 877-654-8463, and the service is free.

Missouri Recent Arrests and Corrections Records

The Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search tracks people who are currently in state prison or on supervised release. It does not cover county jail bookings. But it is useful if you want to check whether someone who was recently arrested has a prior corrections history. The search is free and shows the person's name, DOC ID, date of birth, custody status, and assigned facility. It also lists projected release dates when available.

The DOC updates its data daily. You can search by first and last name, and the system checks known aliases too. It does not show discharged offenders who have finished their sentence. For privacy reasons, it leaves out medical records and exact home addresses. If you need more detail, the DOC Constituent Services Office in Jefferson City can help. Their phone number is (573) 526-2695.

Are Recent Arrests Public in Missouri

Yes. Missouri's Sunshine Law, found in Sections 610.010 through 610.200 RSMo, makes arrest records open to the public by default. You do not need to be a party to the case. You do not need to give a reason. The law says these records "shall be liberally construed" in favor of public access. Agencies must respond to your request by the end of the third business day.

Copying fees are capped at 10 cents per page for standard paper copies under Section 610.026 RSMo. Research time can be billed at the actual cost of staff time. If an agency denies your request, it must give you a written statement citing the specific law that allows the denial. Knowing violations carry a civil penalty up to $1,000. Purposeful violations can cost up to $5,000. Fee waivers are available when the disclosure serves the public interest.

Missouri Sex Offender Registry

The Missouri Sex Offender Registry is maintained by the Highway Patrol CJIS Division. You can search by name, date of birth, address, tier level, county, or city. A map search lets you find offenders within a set distance from any address, from 500 feet up to 15 miles. The registry uses a three-tier system. Tier I offenders register for 15 years and check in once a year. Tier II offenders register for 25 years and report every 6 months. Tier III offenders register for life and report every 90 days.

Anyone moving to Missouri or released from custody must register within 3 business days. The toll-free line for questions is 1-888-SOR-MSHP. If you have concerns about the accuracy of a listing, contact the sheriff in the county where the offender lives.
